There’s plenty for us to do in Riverview, FL, you just have to know where to look. And if you love to bowl, RnB music, or both, then I have the perfect outing for you— “Strike After Dark” RnB at the Southshore Alley!
The event takes place every first and third Thursday at The Alley at Southshore bowling complex. The entry is free if you book ahead of time and the tickets go quick. However, you can still try to slide in at the last minute, but you have to get there early and be prepped to spend a smooth 20 dollars.
Atmosphere
The crowd was a 50/50 split of grown & sexy (30+), and young black socialites. Everyone was live, rowdy and fun but in a respectable way. I never felt the need to really look over my shoulder, and I think the women (and there was plenty of them fellas) felt at ease letting their hair down.
The actual event takes place inside of a reserved/separate section of the venue which has about 8-10 lanes for those who actually came to bowl. For the vibes, there was ample amount of seating for mingling, and a dedicated bar solely for the section.
If you forget to reserve your spot for the RnB event, there is residual fun to be had in outside of the reserved party room. The Alley at Southshore is a gigantic bowling alley with like 40 something lanes. Its also equipped with a bar, plenty of pool tables, and even an arcade. This is the perfect place for parents with younger kids, who still want to get out the house from time to time.
Prices
As I mentioned, entry into the event is free if you RSVP ahead of time. However, the tickets typically go as soon as the flyer goes up on Instagram. Therefore I showed up early (9PM) and was able to get in by paying 20 bucks.
Drink prices were typical for the Tampa-Bay area, but the bartender was very generous. The go-to—Henny/Sprite was 16 bucks, but it was definitely a double shot (maybe even a triple). One minor gripe though, is how long it took to stand in line to get a drink. I think the organizers could stand to bring in an extra set of hands.
Music
The music was decent, however i wish the DJ would have went deeper into the RnB Bag. He did play RnB, but most of the playlist was filled with line dance music and Tampa classics.
Verdict
Overall the event organizers have done a great job curating a space for the black suburban night dweller, especially those of us in the 30+ club. To actually have a place to go dance and mingle right here in Riverview also calls for bonus points and therefore;
The Southshore Alley RnB Nights earns an 8.5/10!
