Planting an Entire Cherry Tomato to See if it Produces a New Crop—a Running Experiment.

April 15

My son and I dug about 30 holes and placed store-bought cherry tomatoes in each hole and covered.

Some tomatoes were squished prior to planting, others were planted as is.

We have a sprinkler that waters the garden every morning at about 4 am for 10 minutes, so we didn’t water immediately after planting.

We live in the Tampa area, and the soil is an unamended blend of whatever the construction company used to level the foundation prior to building. There are some weeds in the yard that pop up and die out consistently which may provide for some type of composting.

April 17

Nothing has sprouted thus far, which was expected. Google says 5-10 for sprouting, so next update to be expected on 20 April.

April 23

Still having seen any indications that anything has sprouted. Gonna dub this method a failure and make adjustments. Will likely try to place an entire tomatoe in a seed planter with more nutrient rich soil.

Experiment was a bust. Nothing popped out of the ground.
